The Surprising Freedom in Losing to Gain: A Biblical Paradox
At the heart of Jesus’ teachings lies a truth that turns human logic on its head: to gain true life, we must lose the one we’re clinging to. In Matthew 16:25, Jesus says, 'For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.' This statement is more than just a spiritual idea—it’s an invitation to a transformed way of living. In our culture, success often means holding onto control, accumulating more, and building a life on our terms. Yet Jesus teaches that real life begins when we release all of that to Him. Think of a seed. It must fall to the ground and die before it can grow into something greater. Similarly, our lives bear the most fruit when we let go of our agendas and trust in God’s greater plan. I’ve personally wrestled with this principle. Letting go of control isn’t easy, but each time I’ve surrendered my fears, dreams, or plans to God, I’ve experienced His peace and provision in ways I couldn’t have imagined. Are you willing to trust God with what you’re holding onto? The path of surrender isn’t without challenges, but it’s where true life begins.
